DR. DALE SCHALKWIJK
(Doctor of Physiotherapy)

I’ve been heavily involved in sport my whole life. With parents both achieving world titles in their respective sports. I started as a keen swimmer who was swimming at a state level and had a coach who pushed me too far and ended up damaging my shoulders enough to need to stop swimming. I transitioned into running and one training session after pushing myself pretty hard (obviously I had lost my technique) tore both hamstrings.

I realised sports at a high level was not my calling and moved into coaching where i put everything I’ve learnt into practice with other athletes.

I have graduated as a Doctor of Physiotherapy from Macquarie University and work part time in a private practice and part time coaching clients in the gym. My area of interest lies in those who have an injury and are struggling to reach their fitness goals because they have to compensate with their condition. I like the challenge in the programming that this brings as it’s not general fat loss training or heavy lifts. We have to incorporate rehab exercises into the strength program.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Am i too young or too old to do exercise?

Yes you can be too young but please message us to see if we can organise something for you if you’re under 18.As for too old…there’s no such thing! I’ve worked with men and women over 80 who are more active than 20 year old’s. Consult your doctor prior to training and we can work out a plan for you.

Do you give out fitness plans without personal training?

In short, yes. However we do not recommend this and hence charge a high fee to maintain some form of accountability for you. A trainer doesn’t just give you a program, they help with mindset and keeps you accountable for your actions.

I should go to the gym and prepare myself before getting a trainer, yeah?

No. For two reasons:
1. You will end up taking longer to reach your goals.
2. You are likely to develop bad movement patterns and habits and those are very hard to change.We specialise in developing those movements so you can transition to training on your own later on.

Do you have preference for any clients?

In all honesty every trainer likes working with certain clients. My favourite area to study and therefore train myself is in correctional exercise. Analysing your movement and finding any potential ways to increase your performance. Most of my clientele are people with some sort of injury or pain who are also looking to lose weight and get healthier.

Hardest sessions ever! Dale pushed me to my limits with huge volume programs to help me increase mass. Towards the last few weeks was all about shredding for a event so was on quite a strict diet.
